Eric Carter is a Jacksonville based jazz and blues musician whose career is defined by love, and personal growth. Known for his soulful sound and rich musicality, Carter’s performances are rivaled only by his commitment to his family, especially his three sons, all of whom are on the autism spectrum.
A talented musician, Eric’s performances have graced various venues across Jacksonville, including the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Breezy’s Jazz House, and others. These stages are familiar to Carter, where his jazz-infused blues mesmerizes audiences with every note. Yet, his life outside the spotlight is equally inspiring. His love for his sons drives much of his personal motivation. As a single father to three autistic boys, Carter faces the daily challenges of raising children with special needs, but it’s clear that his children’s well-being is his number one priority.
“I watched him cook, clean, and take care of his boys. He would push a stroller with three boys in it. Music is one thing but fathering is an entirely different ball game for Eric,” says his good friend and music collaborator, Reggie Dantzler.
“Eric is classically trained. I place him up there with George Benson, and Earl Klugh. When it comes down to jazz and blues you can’t beat him. He learned his R&B style from me,” he says with a huge grin.
For years, Eric also struggled with his own health, tipping the scales at over 300 pounds. The excess weight drained his energy and made it harder to keep up with his busy musical career and responsibilities at home. However, Carter made the life-altering decision to focus on improving his health through diet, exercise, and a dedication to wellness.
His story is one of physical, mental and emotional challenges.
