Swing to the Sounds of a Bygone Era

HomeMusicSwing to the Sounds of a Bygone Era

If you’re a fan of jazz, swing, or big band music, Monday nights at the Mudville Grille Music Room in Jacksonville offer a perfect way to enjoy timeless tunes and great company. The smooth sounds of a classic swing orchestra, and the energy of traditional New Orleans jazz, happens at this weekly event that has become a well-kept secret.

The music begins at 7:00 p.m. and wraps up by 9:00 p.m., making it an ideal evening outing that won’t keep you out too late. The $10 cover charge is easy on the wallet, making this a wonderful intergenerational activity if you want to bring a grandchild or two who appreciates live music.

The TBA Big Band, a sixteen piece ensemble made up of the finest local professional musicians and music educators, performs on the first and third Mondays of each month. Their repertoire pays tribute to swing-era legends such as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman, while also highlighting works by local composers and arrangers. Many band members are affiliated with local institutions like the University of North Florida, Jacksonville University and Florida State College at Jacksonville, lending an exceptional level of artistry and experience to every performance.

Rhythm Kings 2

On the second and fourth Mondays, the River City Rhythm Kings take the stage with a six piece group focused on classic jazz from the 1920s through the 1940s. You’ll hear favorites made famous by Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton, and Bix Beiderbecke. Adding a festive touch, each night ends with audience participation in a fun rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In”, a nod to the spirit of Mardi Gras and New Orleans street parades.

If you feel like tapping and clapping along, or dancing in your seat, these evenings at Mudville Grill are sure to bring back a few memories. It’s live music where the atmosphere is warm, and friends are waiting to be made.

Gather your gang, neighbors, or social group, and enjoy an evening of incredible music. For more information visit rivercityrhythmkings.com – theBand, or contact Dr. Marc Dickman at mdickmanjz@aol. com, or call 904.703.3287.
