If you’re a fan of jazz, swing, or big band music, Monday nights at the Mudville Grille Music Room in Jacksonville offer a perfect way to enjoy timeless tunes and great company. The TBA Big Band, a sixteen piece ensemble made up of the finest local professional musicians and music educators, performs on the first and third Mondays of each month. Their repertoire pays tribute to swing-era legends such as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman, while also highlighting works by local composers and arrangers. Many band members are affiliated with local institutions like the University of North Florida, Jacksonville University and Florida State College at Jacksonville, lending an exceptional level of artistry and experience to every performance.
On the second and fourth Mondays, the River City Rhythm Kings take the stage with a six piece group focused on classic jazz from the 1920s through the 1940s. You’ll hear favorites made famous by Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton, and Bix Beiderbecke. Adding a festive touch, each night ends with audience participation in a fun rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In”, a nod to the spirit of Mardi Gras and New Orleans street parades.
