For the people featured in this story, working with older adults began with something personal. A grandparent who needed extra care. A neighbor who became a friend. A time when they realized how much a difference patience and understanding can make. Their careers grew out of those experiences, not from a job listing, but from real relationships.
We introduce four local professionals who share why they chose this work, what continues to motivate them, and why serving feels less like a career and more like giving back to the people who need it most.
Here’s what they had to say:
PAMELA SILVERMAN – Senior Services Advocate
As the director of a local senior resource center, Pamela Silverman has spent more than twenty years helping older adults fi nd housing assistance, meal programs, and social connections. She believes dignity begins with being heard. “Many seniors feel invisible,” Pamela says. “My job is to remind them that they matter and that help is available.”
JIM WHITEHOUSE – Financial Advisor
Money worries can weigh heavily on the heart, especially later in life. Jim Whitehouse specializes in working with retirees and pre-retirees, guiding them through financial decisions with clarity. Known for his plain-language approach, he says trust is the foundation of his work. “People are trusting me with their future,” he shares. “That responsibility deserves honesty and care.” His guidance has helped seniors feel calmer and more confident about what lies ahead.
THERESA COOK – Home Health Care Nurse
For many seniors, health challenges can feel overwhelming. Theresa, a home health care nurse, brings medical support and comfort directly into patients’ homes. She sees her role as deeply personal. “Sometimes the best medicine is listening,” she explains. Her steady presence reassures families and helps seniors manage conditions while remaining in familiar surroundings.
GREG BARD – Physical Therapist & Rehab Specialist
Movement is an act of self-love, and he has made it his mission to keep seniors moving safely. As a physical therapist specializing in older adults, Bard creates sessions that focus on balance, strength, and confidence. “Exercise isn’t about age,” he says. “It’s about possibility.” His encouragement helps participants feel capable, and proud of what their bodies can do. We celebrate their dedication and the lives they make brighter because love will keep us together.
