Many of us know that matters of the heart are more than physical, they’re emotional and financial too. And unfortunately, scammers know this, often targeting us with schemes designed to deceive and take advantage of trust. To help members stay safe, financial institutions have launched education and prevention efforts centered on awareness, and support.
One of Vystar credit union’s key messages is simple and empowering: “When in doubt, just reach out.” That’s the theme of VyStar’s ongoing fraud-prevention campaign, which encourages members to check with VyStar directly when something feels off before responding to a phone call, text, email, or online message.
“This campaign is built around partnership,” says VyStar EVP and COO Chad Meadows. “We monitor accounts, invest in advanced fraud prevention tools and provide education, while members play a critical role in staying alert and reaching out when something doesn’t feel right.”
VyStar’s advice underscores some common tactics that fraudsters use such as urgency, fear, and impersonation. Scammers may pose as bank representatives, claiming there’s a problem with your account, or they may send messages that look official but are designed to steal personal information.
Fraud prevention tips from Community First Credit Union says you must understand how scammers operate. They often ask for sensitive information this way. Use strong, unique passwords and consider a password manager to keep them secure.
Use multi-factor authentication on your online banking. This adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a code sent to your phone or email, not just a password.
Monitor your account activity regularly, set up transaction alerts, and always use the official contact information on your debit or credit card.
Keep your heart-earned cash by safeguarding it and protecting your financial health. Stay informed, stay cautious, and remember: if something feels wrong, contact your financial institution first.
