Paws and Effect – Can Dogs Do More Than Fetch and Deliver?

Ever wondered if your dog could do more than just retrieve a ball? Imagine your furry friend mastering a human task like making coffee or answering the doorbell! Training your dog to tackle these everyday chores can be a hilarious and rewarding adventure, adding a dash of humor to your routine. Don’t give up! It’s possible to teach dogs to handle simple tasks, proving that with a bit of patience, even your pup can become the ultimate household helper.

First Coast Senior Living asked a few pet owners if they could teach their dog to perform a human task, what it would be. Some tasks are more realistic than others. Here’s what they had to say.

I’d love to teach my dog
to drive—it’s one of my
least favorite pleasures,
but having a driver on
Saturday mornings would
be fantastic. Max enjoys
rides in the car, so I take him with me
in the car from time to time. It would
be great if he could chauff eur once in a
while. I know he appreciates being with
me, and it would be a fun way for him to
return the favor!

After a long day coaching on the tennis courts, I’d kick off my tennis shoes and Bentley and Rafa, my Bouviers who are both gone now, would spring into action, pulling offmy socks for me. It became a cherished routine, a special bond we shared. Sure, it was a bit pricey, with my socks wearing out faster than usual, but I’d gladly go through it all again if it meant havingthem by my side

My dog, Mason, is a charming
maltipoo who once sported
a tie to work. He has always
impressed me with his smarts.
My dream is for him to wake me
up each morning, showcasing
our unique connection and his role as my
special companion. I’d love to see him in sync
with my routine, bringing a personal touch to
our mornings. Mason being my perfect wakeup buddy would be the ultimate expression of
our bond and a dream come true
